Puppy and Kitten Care
Bringing a new puppy or kitten into your home is always something to celebrate. They add energy and fun and are a source of unceasing affection as they bond with you and your family.
Your first visits with your new puppy or kitten at Harris Pet Hospital are perhaps the most important. These initial visits are where you, one of our veterinarians, and your pet first meet and begin to form the relationship that lasts throughout the life of your pet. Some of the issues discussed during your first visits include:
-Diet and nutrition
-Behavior issues
-Spaying and neutering
-Formulation of an individualized vaccine protocol
-Pet health insurance
-Parasite prevention
Senior and Geriatric Care
Harris Pet Hospital offers senior and geriatric care for pets six years of age and older. Some of our regular screening tests for senior pets include blood work, urinalysis, blood pressure measurement, chest x-rays, glaucoma testing, and abdominal ultrasound. Taking the time to learn more about the special needs of your senior pet is the first step toward providing the best care for your friend's golden years.
The aging process can be slowed and managed through proper medical care, thereby offering your beloved pet an extended period of vitality and good health. Additionally, preventive care tailored to your pet's age, lifestyle, risk factors, and other elements can help prevent common diseases and help detect them at early and easily treatable stages.
Exotic Pet Care
At Harris Pet Hospital, we believe that all pets deserve the opportunity to lead happy and healthy lives. This is why we offer medical care for exotic or pocket pets – reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, mice, rats, and many other exotic species.
The healthcare needs of these animals are quite unique and require a veterinary team with the experience and expertise to provide them with the best and most appropriate care possible. In the wild, many of these animals develop strategies to conceal illness or injuries as a survival technique. These tendencies continue in domestic exotic and pocket pets, which mean their medical problems often go unnoticed.
With knowledge and experience, we are able to identify health issues in your exotic pet. This is why we strongly recommend annual physical examinations to check for health, nutrition, and husbandry-related conditions. With annual medical examinations, problems are often diagnosed before they become serious medical conditions.
Internal Medicine
The veterinarians at Harris Pet Hospital are knowledgeable in diagnosing and treating complex internal medicine cases such as kidney, heart, respiratory, immune-mediated and endocrine diseases.
By using the latest advanced diagnostic technology, we can accurately determine what is wrong with your pet. After performing a thorough examination, we may recommend additional tests in order to identify your pet's medical condition.
Reproductive Services
At Harris Pet Hospital, we offer complete reproductive services for both canine and feline pets. We are committed to helping breeders improve their breeding programs and eliminate heritable diseases through health screening and advanced reproductive techniques. We offer services that can help all levels of breeding programs. These include:
-Breeding consultation
-In-house progesterone levels
-Semen collection and evaluation
-Artificial insemination
-Pregnancy ultrasound and x-rays
We use HomeAgain microchips, which can be successfully scanned almost anywhere in the world. Implantation of the microchip is painless and takes only seconds.
It's important to remember that a lost pet is not merely an inconvenience, it's the number one cause of pet death in the country. Therefore, we recommend microchipping every pet.
Prescription Diets
Some pets have serious nutritional challenges or chronic conditions that can benefit from a special diet. If we identify an issue in your pet, we offer advice and provide information about diets that benefit specific medical conditions. We carry a range of diets for pets with liver and intestinal disease, bladder and kidney stones, renal failure, food allergies, diabetes, and other conditions.
As the prescribing veterinarian for your pet's medications, we are able to ensure there is a direct link between the exam room and our pharmacy. This means your pet will receive the right medication, at the right dose, in the right form as quickly as possible. We will also be able to easily guide you on the medication's use as well as monitor its effectiveness.
We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products, and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.
Ensuring that you have convenient and timely access to competitively priced medications is an important aspect of our veterinary practice.
